Coming Attractions in Underground Music: December 2011

December 2, 2011 Leave a Comment

MIT saves a December void of underground musical events by hosting Florian Hecker and Terry Riley.

Terry Riley will perform at MIT on December 15th.

By David Cooper.

Florian Hecker. At the MIT Chapel, Cambridge, MA, December 3, 8 p.m., free.

Florian Hecker is one of the most prominent noise musicians recording today. He’s currently an artist-in-residence at MIT, where he will be performing a new piece, Chimerization, in the beautiful MIT Chapel. The show is free but requires an RSVP. I believe it is filled up as of now, but it still worth a try to get in.

Terry Riley. At the MIT Kresge Auditorium, Cambridge, MA, December 15, 7:30 p.m.

Legendary minimalist composer Terry Riley will be performing a new piece with MIT’s Gamelan Galak Tika gamelan orchestra. The piece will utilize voice, electronics, keyboards, and gamelan. Tickets can be purchased here.
