Sun Ra was often deliberately far out, as we used to say, and also joyously entertaining.
There are unplanned moments in this three LP collection, times when the musicians seem to be waiting to hear what is going to happen next. Something exciting usually does come out of their interactions.
What interested me about Bitches Brew was the chance to discover how choreographer Karole Armitage re-rigs classical ballet steps.
