Cappella Clausura
Among Artistic Director Holly Druckman’s goals is to turn Cappella Clausura into a “very serious player in the Boston early-music-new music scene.”
Mass in D was Ethel Smyth’s first large-scale score and, according to Cappella Clausura conductor Amelia LeClair, the composition expressed her yearning for hope and redemption.
Thoughtful and intriguing, the concert reminded listeners that a lot of great music has been marginalized and all but lost to history.
“Once people hear this music they do indeed come back for it – it is pleasing on so many levels: it soars, it soothes, it excites, it transports.”
