This Changes Everything

This Changes Everything – Movie Screening
Sunday February 28 at 5:00 pm
Center for Arts at the Armory
191 Highland Avenue Somerville

Fossil Free Somerville and Somerville Climate Action present this powerful look at how communities around the world are facing and learn what you can do to empower your local community. A purposefully unsettling but ultimately encouraging global overview of efforts by activists to push back against corporate polluters and ameliorate climate change. Working from her book of the same title, journalist Naomi Klein serves as narrator and onscreen interviewer. Director Avi Lewis casts his net wide, from rural Montana to smog-choked Beijing to illustrate that climate change is a demonstrably real and increasingly dire threat, but not hopeless.

Jazz

Cosmic Gothic
February 28 at 6 p.m.
Lily Pad, Cambridge, MA.

In Cosmic Gothic, the pianist and composer Katherine Shao likes to mix acoustic jazz swing and Latin beats with more ambient electronic excursions, all contained by attractive, tuneful pieces. She’s joined by trombonist Dan Fox, bassist Peter Tillotson, drummer Steve Langone, and Todd Brunel on bass clarinet. They’re celebrating a new CD, In Our Time.
